Recently, at a hydrogen energy interdepartmental working group meeting led by the Hong Kong Environment Bureau, four new hydrogen fuel trial project applications received in-principle approval. Among them was a joint application by King Road Logistics Limited, Allen Bass Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., and Refire Energy.

This project initiates an innovative cross-border hydrogen logistics truck demonstration. Refire Energy and Allen Bass Automotive will co-develop a 24-ton hydrogen-powered logistics truck equipped with MirrorStar fuel cell system self-developed by Refire. The vehicle will be operated by King Road Logistics to meet intensive operational demands including:

  • Daily mileage exceeding 390 km
  • 12-hour daily operation
  • Year-round non-stop service

The solution aims to provide efficient and eco-friendly alternatives for growing logistics needs  between Shenzhen and Hong Kong border.

To date, the Hong Kong hydrogen working group has granted in-principle approval for 18 hydrogen energy trial projects, with Refire Energy participating in multiple initiatives. Following the recent commissioning of Hong Kong’s first public hydrogen refueling station – Sinopec’s Hong Kong Aotou Hydrogen Refueling Station, three hydrogen fuel cell street washers developed by Refire Energy in collaboration with Yutong Group will soon be on road, fueling green momentum into urban environment of Hong Kong.

Refire is actively exploring commercial hydrogen application opportunities in Hong Kong, while establishing strong collaborative foundations with multiple stakeholders. Since 2023, we have initiated several projects with institutions such as the R&D Centre of Hong Kong Automotive Platforms and Application Systems (APAS), covering areas including off-grid charging solutions and hydrogen-powered street washers.

Key milestones include:

  • June 2024: Signed MoU with the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council to explore collaborative opportunities in hydrogen-related R&D and vocational education.
  • November 2024: Signed MoU with Invest Hong Kong (HK Special Administrative Region Government), supporting Refire in leveraging Hong Kong as a strategic platform and base for global expansion.

Moving forward, Refire Energy will continue expanding cross-sector partnerships while ramping up the deployment of diversified hydrogen applications. We are committed to supporting Hong Kong’s development as a global hydrogen technology demonstration hub and driving the region’s green energy transition through innovative collaboration.
